During the day yesterday, December 19, an inter-entity agreement<\/strong> was signed to support the Italian bid for the Einstein Telescope.<\/a> The President of the Region of Sardinia, Alessandra Todde, together with the Rectors of the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari, and the Presidents of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics INFN<\/a>,INAF<\/a> andINGV<\/a>, formalized the agreement aimed at supporting the candidacy of the former mine of Sos Enattos, the Italian candidate site to host the Einstein Telescope (ET). <\/p>\n

The choice of Sos Enattos as the site for the Einstein Telescope is not accidental. Located in the municipality of Lula, in the province of Nuoro, the former mine is located in an area characterized by high geophysical stability and excellent seismic silence, thus offering ideal conditions for the needs required by the immense infrastructure, which is suited to the study of gravitational waves. These observations, in fact, are extremely sensitive to even the slightest vibrations and therefore require an environment that is as stable and quiet as possible. <\/p>\n

What does the newly signed Einstein Telescope agreement include?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The agreement signed between the entities involved, with the Region of Sardinia as lead partner, aims to create a stable coordination that will enable the implementation of common and targeted actions. The project not only concerns the bid to host the Einstein Telescope, but also embraces a broader vision of enhancing the area and its potential, involving scientific, educational and research activities in different fields. <\/p>\n

The actions envisaged in the agreement are diverse and strategic. On the one hand, there is the intensification of information and promotional campaigns on the candidacy of Sos Enattos as the site of choice to host the ET, with a focus on raising awareness about the opportunities that the infrastructure can bring not only scientifically, but also economically and culturally. On the other hand, the agreement places a strong emphasis on education in science and engineering, with the involvement of universities and research institutions in initiatives that will range from geology and engineering to architecture and socioeconomic and environmental impact analysis. In addition, the ET infrastructure aims to be a catalyst for innovation for Sardinia, creating opportunities for growth for the area through advanced research and the development of new technologies. <\/p>\n
